Y. H. Thomas Scholarship

The Y.H. Thomas Scholarship was established in 2000 with funding from the Maryland Bank, N.A. (MBNA) Foundation. The initial financial commitment was steered by Terry Whitaker, a former student of Y.H. Thomas Junior High School. This year we will award two scholarships in the amount of $1000 each.
Interested applicants must have a past or current relationship with Y.H. Thomas Community Center, or Y.H. Thomas Athletic Association (volunteer, program participant, athletic program participant) and at minimum a 2.5 GPA.
You will need the following to complete this online application by the Friday, May 12, 2023 -11:59p.m. deadline:

• Official sealed transcript that indicates 2.5 or higher GPA will need to be mailed to Y. H. Thomas Community Center P.O. Box 69081 Hampton VA 23669 
• A typed 250 word personal statement describing your personal/career goals, steps you’re taking to achieve them and how the scholarship will contribute to attainment of your goals.
• A copy of the admittance letter from a regionally accredited college or university.
• One letter of recommendation from a counselor or instructor
• One letter of recommendation from a community leader or non-family mentor (stating their role and position in your life and/or the community).
• A resumé that includes your community and school involvement, noting your leadership roles.
• A head and shoulders digital photo uploaded through this application.
